​Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in India
The Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is the highest level of pilot certification in India and authorizes the holder to fly as the Pilot in Command (Captain) of an airline aircraft. A pilot must obtain an airline transport pilot license to progress to command roles with domestic and international airlines.
Issued by DGCA, the airline transport pilot license ATPL represents advanced operational knowledge, extensive flight experience, and leadership capability. ATPLs are issued only for multi-engine aircraft and are not granted for single-engine operations.
To obtain an ATPL, a pilot must be at least 21 years old at course completion, hold a valid DGCA Commercial Pilot License (CPL), possess a Class-1 Medical Assessment, and complete a minimum of 1500 total flying hours.
What Is an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate?
The Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is the highest certification available toaircraft pilots worldwide. In some countries, such as the United States, it is referred toas an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
An ATPL enables a pilot to command an aircraft carrying passengers and cargo andto act as Captain for an airline. ATPL training primarily consists of ATPL Theory (Ground School). Upon successful completion of theory exams, pilots receive anATPL Theory License, commonly known as a Frozen ATPL (FATPL).
Once the pilot completes 1500 flying hours and clears the practical skill test, theATPL is fully issued.

Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) Course Qualification
To enroll in the airline transport pilot licence ATPL course, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Defence personnel with a minimum of 500 flying hours, including at least 200 hours as Pilot-in-Command, as per DGCA norms

Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) Course Duration
The Integrated ATPL course generally lasts around 70 weeks. During this period,pilots complete advanced ground school and flight instruction to strengthen boththeoretical knowledge and operational competence.

To be eligible for an airline transport pilot license, candidates must meet the following conditions:
